Ways of Disappearing is a new multi-platform opera-film project which sets a creative retelling of the myth of Orpheus’ descent into the underworld against the backdrop of the Irish North/South border during the Troubles.

Merging nuanced characterisation, stark drama and violent history with operatic magical realism, this film draws out a narrative of secrecy and betrayal through the curious, imaginative eyes of a child who wanders from home in search for her ’disappeared’ older brother. The project is a collaboration between Straymaker, Once Off Productions and Little Rose Films, commissioned through the support of the Arts Council of Ireland.

Ways of Disappearing is currently at compositional stage and will be developed in 2025/26.
